A little about me

Ellie Quinlan Houghtaling covers breaking news in politics at The New Republic.

 

Previously she covered breaking news for The Daily Beast.

 

Her words have appeared in The Guardian, Gothamist/WNYC, The Real Deal, Mashable, and Healthday, among others.

​

She is the recipient of the '22 Blood Award for excellence in investigative journalism and was nominated for a National Magazine Award by The Guardian for a reported personal essay on egg donation.

 

She is the co-founder and former editor of @Protest_NYC on Twitter, a new media organization that covered the Black Lives Matter and ensuing social justice protests following the murder of George Floyd. Her work there was profiled by The Daily Beast and New York magazine's Bedford+Bowery affiliate.

 

Ellie graduated with her M.S. as a Toni Stabile Fellow in investigative reporting from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism in 2022. She currently lives in Brooklyn where her real full time job is training her gentle giant Great Pyrenees puppy, Bisou.
